Moments that Rearrange Your Heartbeat
There are moments in life that rearrange your heartbeat. One phone call, one diagnosis, one unexpected shift — and suddenly the world feels different. When someone you love is sick or gets a scary diagnosis, it’s as if the air thickens. Ordinary sounds become louder, ordinary tasks feel heavier, and time moves in a new, unfamiliar rhythm.
You find yourself trying to live in the moment but the “what ifs” creep into your mind. Personally, I have the great gift and curse of powering through things and no one around me would have the slightest clue, but internally I am at war. I have always believed that being able to “power through” is my super power and I still believe that to a certain extent. What I have learned is there is a balance that needs to happen within us. No, I don’t want to be debilitated by life happenings but I do understand that allowing feelings to be expressed and felt is also needed.
There’s also a deep clarity that comes with a loved one getting sick or getting an unexpected diagnosis…. The small annoyances like running late, sitting in traffic….. fade. What matters rises to the top effortlessly: connection, presence, love. You realize how fragile and beautiful life really is.
What helps me more than anything? Prayer.
Philippians 4:6–7 (NIV)
“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.
And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
John 14:27 (NIV)
“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you… Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.”
